Payment of the child benefit
The social insurance fund with which the claimant is affiliated pays out to the recipient of the benefit . In principle, this is the father of the children.

Payment is made by circular cheque. If you wish, you as recipient of the benefit can request in writing that the amount be deposited into your giro account, bank account or savings account.

The child benefit is paid monthly. The payment is made in the course of the month that follows the month to which the child benefit refers.
Example: The child benefit for the month of November will be paid in the course of December.

When an institution (social insurance fund, National Aid Fund or NISSE) receives an application for child benefits for eligible children living in Belgium, it is required to pay out this benefit provisionally as of the month following the date of the application.

Condition for payment

  • Before July 1, 2008
Child benefit is paid out only if your social contributions for the second and third preceding quarters have been paid.
Example: Child benefits for October, November and December will only be paid out if all contributions for the first and second quarter of that same year have been paid in full.
    Exceptions

  • As from July 1, 2008
For the family allowances, it is no longer needed to examine if the social security contributions have been paid for the reference quarters.
